The name on the sign
The post was Fort Hood until 2023, Fort Cavazos from 2023, and Fort Hood again since June 2025, when the Army redesignated it in honour of Col. Robert B. Hood, a World War I Distinguished Service Cross recipient. You will still see both names on paperwork, websites and older signs.
Getting a moving crew through the gate
A civilian moving crew does not have DoD ID cards, so it needs access like any other visitor. Fort Hood's visitor information says passes for people without DoD ID are issued at the Marvin Leath Visitors Welcome Center by the main gate, and that visitors can apply ahead online. Drivers need REAL ID-compliant identification or an approved alternative, and everyone is vetted.
Commercial trucks may be routed through a separate inspection point. Rules and gate hours change, so check the current requirements on the installation's visitor page or with the visitor centre a few days ahead, and give the mover what it needs. A crew stuck at the gate is on your clock.
Housing move-in and move-out
On-post family housing is run by a privatised housing company with its own move-in and move-out procedures, including a final inspection at move-out. Ask the housing office for the inspection date first and book the movers to finish a day before it. Ask too about any rules on where trucks may park.

A move between on-post housing and a rental in town is sometimes part of a PCS and sometimes a personal move. Whether any of it is covered depends on your orders and your service's rules, and only the transportation office can tell you. Ask before you book, not after.
